The following rules are the most important ones at DASS. These rules are to be followed at all times at DASS or when involved in a DASS activity. They are also good guidelines to follow at all times.
DASS students pledge to:
- Be honorable. Therefore, lying, cheating, and stealing of any kind is not allowed.
- Respect one another. Physical and verbal abuse is not allowed.
- Respect property - their own, the property of others, and the school's.
- Behave with regard to their own safety and the safety of others.
ASSERTIVE DISCIPLINE
Dubai American Scientific School aims to have a happy and cooperative school environment where all stu- dents follow the rules. Students are responsible for their own behavior. It is a choice made by the student. He/she chooses to cooperate or is choosing the published consequences.
I. SCHOOL WIDE RULES: CONSEQUENCES DURING ONE WEEK
Students are praised and rewarded for following rules, exhibiting good behavior and doing the right thing.
- Step 1: Verbal warning and note in STUDENT RECORD BOOK
- Step 2 : Break DETENTION (for 15 min. next day), note in STUDENT RECORD BOOK
- Step 3 : Wed DETENTION (period 8 activities), phone parents, Ministry WARNING LETTER #1
- Step4 : Meeting with Parents, Director and H.O.S. along with IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION* (ISS)
II. CLASS RULES: CONSEQUENCES DURING ONE DAY
Students are praised and rewarded for following rules, exhibiting good behavior and doing the right thing.
- Name on the board
- Name on the board and one check = DETENTION (for 15 min. the following day). Note in Student Record Book
- Name on the board and two checks = Wednesday period 8 DETENTION during activities
- Name on the board and three checks = BEHAVIOR LETTER sent home to parents, phone call home call and referral to the supervisor
- IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION* referral to the Director for student, parent and H.O.S. meeting and Ministry WARNING LETTER
SERIOUS CLAUSE: Escalated immediately to step 4.
Notes:
- All incidents are written in the STUDENT RECORD BOOK.
- Students cannot eat in detention and cannot have extra time to get food or eat after break.
- The school cannot take responsibility for valuable items that students bring to school.
- Serious clause offences include (but not limited to): Fighting, causing injury, vandalism, smoking, major theft, abuse of students, teacher or other staff members, skipping class, out of class without permission or leaving the school grounds without permission etc.
- Students are not accepted back in class until the parent has come to sign the WARNING LETTER.
- A third warning letter, at any time, will be sent to the Ministry of Education and the student may lose his/her right to remain in our school.
- Mobile phones are not allowed on school premises (Ministry of Education regulations). Three steps will be
taken when phones found on students:
- The phone and chip will be confiscated for the rest of the day and parent rung.
- The second time the phone and chip will be confiscated for seven days and parent rung.
- The third time the phone and the chip will be taken until the end of term.
School Rules
Good Dubai American School Students:
- Wear a clean school uniform correctly.
- Have the button done up.
- Have neat hair, nails and do not wear jewelry or make-up.
- Keep the school clean and tidy.
- Do not drop litter.
- Tidy up the classroom and materials.
- Behave safely at all times.
- Use the correct areas walk, and don't run.
- Play appropriately in correct areas, and co-operate with others.
- Are punctual.
- Arrive at school by 7.45 and attend classes on time. Do not leave class without permission.
- Do not skip classes or leave the school before the bell at 2:35.
- Respect the school.
- Respect the teachers, workers and administration.
- Follow the instructions of the teachers and administration the first time.
- Respect all school property.
- Respect themselves and other students.
- Move around the school quietly.
- Do not bring mobile phones to school.
- Do not bring valuable items to school (walkman etc.)
- Don't hurt others.
- Respect the property of others.
- Respect individual differences.
- Don't fight, hit, kick, bite, pinch, touch etc.
- Don't form gangs.
- Solve problems peacefully.
